IMPORTANT NOTICE

The online distribution of OpenVMS and related product patches is being migrated to the HP ITRC (Information Technology Resource Center) patch distribution site. The new ITRC patch server will allow OpenVMS customers to take advantage of many enhanced features for patch searching and distribution.

Beginning August 1, 2003, OpenVMS and related Layered Product, publicly available patches will be available from the HP ITRC web site at

http://itrc.hp.com/service/patch/mainPage.do

The same patches will still be available from the existing patch server in Colorado Springs (http://www.support.compaq.com/patches/) through the end of October 2003, to give customers sufficient time to update their bookmarks and make the transition to the HP ITRC web site.

ECO kits will also be available by raw FTP from (ftp://ftp.itrc.hp.com/).

ECO KIT SUMMARY:

An ECO kit exists for Disk File Optimizer for OpenVMS V2.7 on OpenVMS
VAX V7.3 and on OpenVMS Alpha V7.3 through V7.3-1. The
following problems corrected in V2.7 are bug-fixes rather than new
functionality:

DFGE01027 contains fixes to the following problems:

     o  DFO process is aborting on encountering SS$_DATACHECK and some times
	ACCVIO is also occurring.

     o  The scripts are not processed properly if they are chained (Linked)
        i.e. DFO V2.7 Scheduler is not starting the successor script(s) even
 	after successful completion of Predecessor script(s).

     o  Problem with defragmenting ODS-5 formatted disks. DFO was not selecting
	some files for defragmentation, though they fit into the criterion set
	to become candidates for defragmentation.

     o  DFO V2.7 Scheduler is not sending the mails after successful completion
	of Defrag engine process. The mail is being sent after starting the next
	defrag engine process.

ECO KIT ORDERING INSTRUCTIONS:

electronically using the appropriate Advanced Electronic Services
(AES) Service Tool.  If you are not familiar with how to request
kits electronically, open the DIA, WIS or DSNLINK database and
review the article entitled:

INSTALLATION NOTES:

Invoke the VMSINSTAL procedure using the following command:

@SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL saveset-name device-name OPTIONS N

Where:

saveset-name is the installation name for the component.

For the Disk File Optimizer, use the following:
DFGE01027 device-name is the name of the device on which you
plan to mount the media, for example, MUA0:. It is not
necessary to use the console drive for this installation.

However, if you use the console drive, replace any media you
remove when the installation is complete.

OPTIONS N indicates you want to see the release notes.
If you do not include this parameter, VMSINSTAL does
not ask you about the release notes.

Review the release notes before proceeding with the installation as
they could contain additional installation information.
