IMPORTANT NOTICE

The online distribution of OpenVMS and related product patches is being migrated to the HP ITRC (Information Technology Resource Center) patch distribution site. The new ITRC patch server will allow OpenVMS customers to take advantage of many enhanced features for patch searching and distribution.

Beginning August 1, 2003, OpenVMS and related Layered Product, publicly available patches will be available from the HP ITRC web site at

http://itrc.hp.com/service/patch/mainPage.do

The same patches will still be available from the existing patch server in Colorado Springs (http://www.support.compaq.com/patches/) through the end of October 2003, to give customers sufficient time to update their bookmarks and make the transition to the HP ITRC web site.

ECO kits will also be available by raw FTP from (ftp://ftp.itrc.hp.com/).

PLEASE UPDATE YOUR BOOKMARKS AND REGISTER ON THE NEW SITE NOW

Note: if you're having trouble connecting to the ITRC site, please delete any cookies for "itrc.hp.com" from your browser and try again. Report any difficulties with or suggestions to MrVMS

    PROBLEMS ADDRESSED IN VMS721_RENAME_OLD-V0200 KIT

o Additional problem entries have occurred in the
            SYS$COMMON:[SYSUPD]VMS$REMEDIAL_OLD_FILES.TXT file since
the VMS721_RENAME_OLD-V0100 kit was issued. This kit
includes corrections for these new entries. The complete
list of updated images is included in the next problem
            description.

              Images Affected:[SYSUPD]VMS$REMEDIAL_OLD_FILES.TXT

o During an OpenVMS ECO kit installation, names of the
            installed images are written to
            SYS$COMMON:[SYSUPD]VMS$REMEDIAL_OLD_FILES.TXT. Several
of these file names were written incorrectly by the
            following remedial kits.

            o DEC-AXPVMS-VMS721_DRIVER-V0200-4.PCSI

            o DEC-AXPVMS-VMS721_SYS-V1200--4.PCSI (new)

During an OpenVMS Version 7.3 upgrade, operating system
files from the previous version of OpenVMS are deleted.
Because of these file errors, files from the newly
installed system may be deleted. This may cause the
            system to become un-bootable.

This kit will verify the integrity of the
            SYS$COMMON:[SYSUPD]VMS$REMEDIAL_OLD_FILES.TXT file and
make the necessary file name corrections. The files
            corrected are as follows:

In the event this kit fails to execute, the renaming of
the problem files can be done manually by performing the
            following steps:

            1. Edit the file

Change the incorrect lines with the corrected lines
(as shown in the previous tables). Note that the
lines may appear within the file in any order, not
necessarily in the order of these tables.

            2. Close SYS$COMMON:[SYSUPD]VMS$REMEDIAL_OLD_FILES.TXT
                file.

            3. Purge the previous version of the file.

You will be able to install the OpenVMS Version 7.3
Operating System kit using the documented installation
            instructions.

It is recommended that this kit be installed as the last
kit prior to the OpenVMS Version 7.3 Operating System
upgrade. This will assure that all problem files have
            been updated.
