IMPORTANT NOTICE

The online distribution of OpenVMS and related product patches is being migrated to the HP ITRC (Information Technology Resource Center) patch distribution site. The new ITRC patch server will allow OpenVMS customers to take advantage of many enhanced features for patch searching and distribution.

Beginning August 1, 2003, OpenVMS and related Layered Product, publicly available patches will be available from the HP ITRC web site at

http://itrc.hp.com/service/patch/mainPage.do

The same patches will still be available from the existing patch server in Colorado Springs (http://www.support.compaq.com/patches/) through the end of October 2003, to give customers sufficient time to update their bookmarks and make the transition to the HP ITRC web site.

ECO kits will also be available by raw FTP from (ftp://ftp.itrc.hp.com/).

PLEASE UPDATE YOUR BOOKMARKS AND REGISTER ON THE NEW SITE NOW

Note: if you're having trouble connecting to the ITRC site, please delete any cookies for "itrc.hp.com" from your browser and try again. Report any difficulties with or suggestions to MrVMS

    ECO KIT SUMMARY:

An ECO kit exists for Archive/Backup System V3.2 on OpenVMS VAX V6.2
through V7.3 and OpenVMS Alpha V6.2 through V7.3. This kit
    addresses the following problems:

This kit contains a version update of the Remote Device Facility (RDF)
software. This update RDF V4.3G supersedes RDF V4.3A which was included
with Storage Library System V2.9D/F and Archive Backup System V3.2 and V3.1A.
Remote Device Facility is a trademark of Touch Technologies, Inc. who
      developed and maintain the software.

This kit may be applied to systems running the following version(s) of
Storage Library System (SLS) or Media and Device Management Services (MDMS):

          SLS Versions ABS Versions
          ------------ ------------
          SLS V2.9D ABS V3.1A
          MDMS V2.9D MDMS V3.1A
          SLS V2.9F ABS V3.2
          MDMS V2.9F MDMS V3.2

The kit automatically installs the correct images for your type of
system (VAX or Alpha). For the first time we are providing a single
installable kit that can be used with either the SLS or ABS product.
Please refer to the installation section of this document for changes
      to the procedure.

Only apply the kit to systems where either SLS/MDMS 2.9X or ABS/MDMS
3.1X and later have been installed. MDMS 2.9X does not include
the backup and restore functionality of SLS.

MDMS 3.1X and later can be installed separately to support the
      following products:

    	Archive/Backup System (ABS) Versions V3.1X and V3.2,

Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) Versions V3.1X and V3.2
Only when licensed with the use of an existing SLS or ABS license,
    				or
Running RDF with a separately purchased RDF license from TTI,
    	Touch Technologies, Inc.

CHANGES FROM RDF 4.3A TO RDF 4.3G:

o AXP/VMS V7.3 problems relating to returning ZERO status
back to the end user from a SETMODE IRP.

o RDF .exe image files were not being updated to show the
         correct version.

o Too many OPCOM messages would overflow the buffer while
         using previous versions of RDF.

Refer to the release notes for more information.

NEW FEATURES/FUNCTIONALITY: No new features, just bug-fixes.

    RELATED ARTICLES:

the appropriate product database and perform a query using either of
the following search strings: 'ABSE01032' or 'ABS'.

    ECO KIT ORDERING INSTRUCTIONS:

    the changes to take effect.

kit for both SLS and ABS, please refer to release notes.
